Takamaka features a tropical maritime climate with high relative humidity (often 80-95%) and a salt-laden coastal atmosphere. When air is compressed, its moisture capacity drops, causing water to condense inside pipes. This liquid moisture, mixed with airborne salt, accelerates rust, clogs pneumatic tools, and can ruin product batches (such as in beverage bottling). An air dryer removes this water vapor before it reaches the distribution lines.
Refrigerated Air Dryers cool the compressed air to approximately 2°C to 10°C, condensing water vapor out of the stream. This is suitable for most general manufacturing and mechanical workshop applications. Desiccant Air Dryers pass air through moisture-absorbing materials (like activated alumina or silica gel) to achieve dew points of -40°C or lower, which is necessary for sensitive chemical, pharmaceutical, and outdoor high-pressure systems.
Refrigerated air dryers rely on a temperature differential to condense water. High ambient temperatures (common in tropical regions like Mahé) reduce the cooling efficiency of the condenser. When sizing a dryer for Takamaka, it is critical to apply correction factors for ambient temperatures of 35°C to 45°C to prevent overloaded refrigeration circuits.
To protect equipment in coastal zones, we use stainless steel plate heat exchangers rather than standard carbon steel components.
